  • Knights, Maidens and Dragons: Six medieval tales of virtue and valor drawn from the 'Little Colonel' series

Paperback (Julia Duin, May 18, 2020)
These are six enchanting stories, set in Arthurian and medieval times, about teenaged protagonists who face challenges they must overcome. Sacrificial love, courage in despair, purity before marriage, patience in adversity, perseverance in spite of near-insurmountable obstacles are just a few of the virtues displayed in these new spiritual classics. These jewel-like stories, which originally appeared in the Little Colonel books from 1895-1912, have been retold for today's reader. They are accompanied by lush illustrations that portray scenes in which the stories are set, including China, Russia, medieval England, Saudi Arabia and Scotland. When this book originally came out in 1998, under the title "Waiting for True Love," its most avid readers were often adults who loved the themes of endurance and faith that bolster these tales. Homeschoolers were also an avid audience because of the sophistication of these modern-day allegories.
